Visual novel or commonly abbreviated as VN is the one of the most popular writings in Japan. Visual novels are usually packaged as applications which can be played on smartphones, consoles, and computers. Equipped with "accessories" such as illustration, music, and voice acting, VN can be your interesting reading mate.

Basically, VN is divided into two kinds, namely linear novel and non-linear novel .

Linear novel is a story that doesn't require reader's interaction to determine the story. In other words, the linear novel doesn't have branching stories; reader will passively follow the storyline. The linear novel is known as kinetic novel in the VN world.

While the non-linear novel is the opposite of linear novel; it has branching stories and several different endings. This type of VN  is very popular among Japanese VN developer, such as Key. Usually, the story in non-linear novel is very long and complex, so it can't be played in a single day.

 

Although VN is not very famous in gaming market, but there is a hope that VN will be a great deal in both western and eastern market, including Indonesia.
